ILLiad Account Information

To request an item through Interlibrary Loan you must first identify yourself to the FIU Libraries' ILLiad system. To do this you fill out a registration form using your Web browser. Registration has three purposes:

  1. Entering your personal information into the ILLiad system means you will not have to supply the information again when making future requests.
  2. Having your FIU Email and other contact information on file with Interlibrary Loan enables us to notify you promptly and deliver materials accurately when your request arrives in the library.
  3. By specifying a Username and selecting a Password of your choosing, you will have secure access to information about your requests. You will also be able to review the list of items you have requested in the past. ILLiad staff do not have access to passwords, and we therefore encourage you to record your password.

About your Username and Password

During registration, you will enter the 14-digit barcode number of the back side of your FIU Panther ID Card as your ILLiad Username. Then, you will be asked to choose a Password. You will use this Username and Password when logging on to the ILLiad system in the future.

A WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". The FIU Libraries the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the Copyright Law.

How Long Do I Wait for My Request to be Filled?

How quickly we are able to obtain items from other libraries depends upon many factors including the libraries we send your request to and the method used to deliver requested items to the FIU Libraries. Items that are delivered electronically such as articles or book chapters are typically received within 3-7 business days. Items that are delivered via the US Mail or courier can take 7-14 business days to arrive. Some items are delivered more quickly while others may take longer depending on their availability.Delays in processing your requests can be a result of incorrect or incomplete citations or hard-to-locate materials. We depend upon other libraries to fill your request as quickly as possible. This can take an 10 business days or more if the first round of ordering from other libraries is unsuccessful.
